Hi guys,
Ok so I’m going to tell you guys a little secret. So I totally messed up this tray right after making this video which was extremely sad, but I love that I got these awesome shots to share with you guys on tiktok! I can’t wait to make more of these trays and get them onto Etsy for you guys. I just think the shape and color are so cute and compliment the ocean resin so well! Actually I made a few mistakes with this tray. I went to apply the flood coat on top of the waves to give the entire tray a nice glossy finish and I missed a few bubbles somehow. So I sanded them down and applied another resin coat on top of that and I made sure when I covered up the tray for the night that there wasn’t a single bubble. I came in the next morning to a ton of very tiny bubbles all throughout the resin. I believe the issue was that the resin was too cold when I went to use it and my studio, which is also my sunroom, was also too cold so the resin couldn’t cure properly. Since then I’ve gotten a heater for the room, not making that same mistake twice! I also think that the final layer of resin was much thicker than it needed to be. I struggled with this so much when I was first starting out. Especially on trays, you just want enough to cover the surface. If the resin is too thick it can cause a variety of issues. But that’s why I’m here! To make these mistakes and inform you guys of them so you don’t make the same mistakes as me. There are so many things that can go wrong with resin. I definitely wish I had somebody telling me all of this when I first started out. I wasted quite a bit of product by making these easily preventable mistakes.
So unfortunately this tray has gone in the mistake pile. But I always say it’s good to keep your screw ups to remind you of how far you’ve come!
